In Excel 2007 and 2010, if you have a column that contains ONLY first and last name with a space between the names (meaning the data is consistent throughout the column).  See below:

Then use the following steps:

  1. Highlight the names
  2. Click on the Data tab
  3. Click on the Text to Columns icon under the Data Tools group
  4. Click on the Delimited option and click on Next
  5. Click on the Space option and click on Next
  6. Choose a destination cells by highlighting what is already there and click on one cell (omitting this step will write over that column that contains the original information)
  7. Click Finish
